In January we put away the Holiday Light
displays. Deciduous shrubs are pruned back severely to stimulate
abundant new growth in the growing season. We also mulch flower beds and
plant primroses, violas, and Iceland poppies for spring color in the Gazebo
Garden. White ornamental "Peacock" cabbage and white
stock are planted in the
White Garden to bring this
small wedding garden into full
bloom by April. In the Butterfly Garden, most of the plants are resting.
All roses are pruned hard so they will bloom well in early spring. The
garden is beautiful at this time of year, especially when the plants
glisten in the rain.
