In the Butterfly Garden, asclepias
physocarpa, known as the "family jewels tree," is a magnet for Monarch
butterflies laying their eggs, as well as caterpillars chomping leaves
and forming chrysalises. This is the best month to see the maximum
number of butterflies active in the garden. The tree dahlia is 12-14
feet tall, with lavender blue flowers popping their heads above the
cypress hedge on Burton Drive. In the White Garden, the Montanoa
grandiflora "tree daisy" goes crazy with blooms. Some of the more
prolific rose bushes may show a second bloom in October as well.
